Recycling is about more than just putting stuff into different coloured bins. Community composting schemes can be a fun way of reducing landfill and at the same time having free compost for your garden.

It’s a giveaway! There are more and more opportunities to ensure that your unwanted ‘junk’ goes to a good home. Consider joining or setting up an internet-based local ‘freecycling’ scheme where you offer up your unwanted furniture, computer equipment and so on. And you can check the list for stuff you want too. Alternatively, ‘Swap Shop’ events can be organised, rather like a carboot sale where unwanted possessions are swapped rather than sold.
